Heartbreaking. Newborns Addicted to Opioids.

I have witnessed an "adult" heroin user in withdrawal. I have seen the look of despair. I have been told it feels like the flu on steroids, intensified beyond measure. Chills, sweating, muscle pain, nausea, and the list goes on. The discomfort can last for days and even weeks. Worse than that, the craving never completely goes away.

Opioid addicted babies are born into withdrawal when the cord is cut. They do not have the emotional capacity to understand why they suffer so greatly. These are the most vulnerable members of our society. It sickens me that we can't always protect them.
