Waiting For a Better High

Most people don’t know this side of skydiving. It’s called “waiting” and is common in all air sports. Waiting for good (safe/legal) conditions. Not a good fit for the impatient soul but well worth the time and energy for many of us. (I speak only from my history, not because I am doing this jump with him now). Yesterday’s cloud cover grounded Sam’s plane and we had to reschedule. His enthusiasm was infectious. That will likely change in two weeks, weather permitting.
My hope is that this skydive becomes the best high so far. Maybe even the one he chases. I don’t think that just being sober will be enough for him, I think he needs some edge. I know I do.
That’s what made me pursue hanggliding so many years ago. Sam's dad flew for a few years too.
The need for adrenaline may simply be in Sam’s blood. I am happy that I have the chance to introduce him to his first really big natural high.
