Visit #2

I am just about to hit the road for my second visit with Sam. Instead of feeling nervous and unsure, I am super excited. I've been practicing scrabble and have packed much warmer clothes this time so I can walk out of there a little less blue than last time.

For the first time in a very long time I feel sincere hope for Sam. I can't wait to spend a few hours with him. He told me last time that he recognizes now how much support he has out here. He sees many inmates who don't have the family, friends, and other support he has, such as prayers from people who have never met him. It means so much to him. And me. Thank you all for that.

This picture is how I will always see him in the back of my mind. A small innocent child who lost his way.
