A MOM FIGHTING THE DRAGON

Sober, Orange, and Laughing

Yesterday my dear friend, mentor, and favorite yoga teacher in the world, passed on a message in her class that had resonated with her:

Replace your “what if’s” with “even if”. It puts you back into the mindset that you can handle all of the “even ifs” in your life. Through personal power, community support, faith (for many of us), and breath.

I shared this message with Sam last night. Whatever happens, we are here for him. We love him so much and we will be by his side, through all of his “even ifs”, and there will be plenty. We are his family and we will hold him up and also hold him accountable, no matter what.

This is one thing I love about my family. We laugh. We always find something. It feels so good to connect that way, even miles apart over a video screen. My sober boy in orange with his Ramen-traded-for-buzz cut looks good right now, I wanted to share his picture.

He is working out daily and he is reading a lot and attending AA meetings. These things are feeding his soul. I see more life in his eyes than I have in a while. As his mom, this brings me an odd sense of misplaced joy. Can’t explain it, won’t even try.

Thank you for reading. Where there is life, there is hope. Love you. #nomoreshame.
