Narcan in High Schools

Narcan is available to every high school in the United State. The first round is free. The cost going forward is $100 per year per school. Green Mountain high school in Lakewood CO does NOT currently stock it (although their PO does). I imagine it is a district (JEFFCO) policy, but to say I am stunned is an understatement. I would question why ANY Colorado school district, or any district in the nation, would hesitate to acquire a proven way to combat an opioid overdose.
Drug overdoses are the leading cause of death in people under 50 in this country. JEFFCO School district needs to get on board. There are many things we never imagined happening inside our schools; shootings, suicides, sexual assaults, to name a few. We can’t afford to wait to support the cause until someone actually does die of an overdose in one of our high schools.
I may be the only one in my district writing, but I am not the only one fighting. Please check your own district. Make it happen. A child’s life could depend on it.
You never expect it to be your kid. I hope it isn’t. We all need to let go of our expectations and embrace reality.
Where there is life, there is hope. Thanks for reading. #nomoreshame.
